Jessica is a supporting character in Housepets!. She was first introduced in Yes, Jessica, There Is An Opener Of Ways.

She is Zach's girlfriend and lives in a den with her woodland friends.

Physical Appearance[]

Jessica is an opossum; she has white fur on her face, gray fur on her body, black fur on her eyelids ears and paw, and has a long hairless tail. When it's cold she wears a green scarf that was gifted to her by Zach. She has light-brown eyes.

Personality[]

Jessica has a sarcastic personality, an "in your face" attitude and often makes snide remarks during a situation. She also is quick to resort to violence when necessary, and has let her fist do the talking on several occasions (such as when she gave Cory a black eye for stealing Zach's collar.)

Jessica is more level headed than most of the other woodland animals and she is one of the only ones who does not believe in the "Opener of Ways" or "Openerdom", disregarding the religion for perpetuating false hope among those suffering from real problems. She first regarded Zach as a fraud until she met him and realized he never intended to become a prophet.

However, Jessica is highly altruistic; she cares deeply about the well-being of her friends, even at her own expense (she doesn't believe she should live in comfort when her friends have nothing) and when she was given a newly refurbished den, she refused to live in something so nice until it was revealed she could host her friends, and she allowed them to live with her.

As a feral Jessica is also a huge fan of food; her favorite appears to be sandwiches.

General Information[]

Jessica was introduced when Custom Ink bursts into her den three weeks before "Openermas." Ink's son Tiny Tum is sick with a fever, and Jessica and Ink argue over Ink's use of prayer to heal him (Ink counters her prayers are because she had sent Falstaff and Truck to get the medicine.) Tired of her friends' insistence on believing in the Opener instead of being proactive, Jessica sets off to give the "Opener of Ways" a piece of her mind. She first meets the Hermit before she passes out during a snowstorm and is coincidentally found by Zach. She first chides him for living comfortably in a home while everyone out there is cold and suffering clinging to the hope of miracles, but to her frustration Zach agrees with her. He sends her off with medicine and a green scarf, but by the time Jessica gets back Truck has already delivered the medicine for Tiny Tum. While ashamed that her venture ended up being pointless, Ink still is grateful for Jessica's actions. Ink later gives Jessica back the scarf Zach gave her for Openermas, which Jessica wears with pride.

When Tiger was given his very own television show, Jessica reappears as the show is doing a segment about the letter P and she is a possum. He annoys her after she tells him she doesn't know what television even is, so Jessica punches him and gives him a black eye. She also scares Zach with a chainsaw on Halloween to get him to stop making prophecies, even though he isn't responsible for that.

Later Zach is tricked out of his collar by a skunk named Cory and ends up falling into a chasm dangling from a branch. Jessica attempts to rescue him, accidentally breaking Zach's ankle, but the tree branch she is hanging from snaps and both end up tumbling into a relocation trap, breaking her arm. Zach sadly laments all of the bad luck he's suffered, and how he's cold and hurt, leading Jessica to try to comfort him. They are rescued by Keene Milton and later they bond and recover from their injuries at the Arbelt house. Zach invites Jessica to hang out with him again, and she kisses him on the lips before leaving, beginning a relationship with him.

Jessica meets with Zach at the state fair as part of the petting zoo; she also gives King valuable advice about his relationship with Bailey, stating that a relationship relies on trust in each other.

One day, Karishad arrives at her den to inform her that her den is to be renovated for a show Rock Milton is making called Flip That Den! Jessica is set up in a trailer to wait, and while she is comfortable at first she soon grows bored and tries to leave, but is repeatedly stopped by Natalie. After the den is finished, Jessica stuns everyone by saying she can't live in it as it would be unfair for her to live so lavishly while the others have nothing. Karishad suggests she host her friends, which Jessica agrees to, letting Falstaff, Truck, Cory and Trinket live in the den. Later Ink and her son move in, and Zach visits her there occasionally.

Later Fox and Mungo visit the den to stakeout Sasha Hartford for an investigation, Jessica believes they've come to evict her until they state they aren't. Mungo also ends up getting stuck in the door, but he is freed after Zach tickles his nose causing him to sneeze himself loose.

After the temple collapses, Jessica allows Karishad to live with her, as well as Herman Steward who unbeknownst to Jessica had been turned into a badger. It's also revealed that a fox named Kix and her two kits Draig and Craig have moved in as well. While Jessica at first believes the temple's collapse would lead to the end of the religion, Ink clarifies that her faith is now stronger than ever and they've taken the collapse as a sign that the Opener is in them all.

Sometime later squirrel named Marion arrives to the den after following Falstaff and Truck, looking for somewhere to stay. Jessica lets Marion stay in an empty room, though she chastises Steward for trying to convince Marion to join the Equal Chance Program. When the K-9 Unit comes looking for Marion, Jessica leads Marion trough the basement to escape, but he is caught by Lois, who offers Jessica a sandwich in exchange for him. Later they return to the den looking for Herman Steward, but he and Trinket flee the den and into the woods.

Trivia[]
