Bino presides over a meeting

The Good Ol' Dogs Club is a club founded by Fido and Bino for the dogs of Babylon Gardens. It was first mentioned during Cat Tail when Bino kicked Peanut out of the club for being a cat-lover.

General Information[]

The club is headed by a council of six or more members and a chairdog who likely acts as their representative. While officially neutral toward cats, most of the council is staunchly opposed to their presence and will ostracize any dog they consider to be a "cat lover", even the greatly respected Fido Byron, who was removed as leader because of this. This does not seem to prevent Grape from slipping onto the premises and enjoying the dog biscuits, as she had asserted herself with the neighborhood dogs when she was a kitten. Bino is currently the leader of the club.

Club House[]

The club is currently run out of a large two-story building of unknown ownership. According to a map shown in Highly Detailed Battle Plans, it is situated very close to the Wolf House. The main level appears to consist of one large room and is sparsely furnished with beanbag chairs. There is at least one bedroom on the second floor.

History[]

A young Fido adresses the club

The Good Ol' Dogs Club was founded by the brothers Fido and Bino sometime in their youth. Initially, they would host events such as safety lectures from the K9PD in a backyard. Being the older brother, Fido was naturally the leader of the club and held the title of Chairdog with Bino as the co-founder. Additionally, Fido's reputation with the neighborhood dogs was immense and he was looked upon as a hero: he would push pet rights, fight ferals, protect the neighborhood from burglars and even teach puppies to read and write in his spare time. Bino on the contrary grew up to be an "envious, greedy, stingy, obnoxious, petty, and downright mean" dog, who only held authority over the other dogs because of his blood relation to Fido. When Fido left Babylon Gardens to study at the Police Dog Academy, Bino became the Chairdog of the club in his absence.

Fido returns in late 2008 in Fido's Return and quickly resumes his leadership over the club and the title of Chairdog. He starts undermining Bino's authority much to the younger sibling's frustration, for instance by re-admitting Peanut after Bino kicked him out for being a "cat-lover". Despite this, they eventually seem to enjoy a peaceful co-leadership, since Fido has no wish to be a leader for the sake of authority and power, like Bino. Bino would continue to be a power-hungry and selfish dog, though, and his schemes even lose him some of the support he takes for granted. His loyal friend Fox Lindberg, another member of the Club's council, realizes how awful Bino is after Valentine's of 2013 and starts distancing himself from him.

Everything changes in late 2013 during Jungle Fever when it's revealed that Fido is in a romantic relationship with the cat Sabrina. Since there is such a prejudice against "cat-lovers" in the dog community, not even Fido's brilliant reputation can help him, and he is quickly voted out as Chairdog and member of the Club's council. Fox decides not to vote in Fido's expulsion due to his conflict between his contempt for cat-lovers and admiration for Fido. Since he is already in bad terms with Bino, from that day on he would not show up at the club and decides to join the Police Dog Academy instead. The new Chairdog would then be elected by another vote.

It's revealed in Wolf's Clothing, early 2015, that the club remains in a state of upheaval after Fido was cast out, and the club's support is shrinking. Despite Bino's obvious influence, a new chairdog has yet to be elected since Fox hasn't put in his vote yet. Bino won't force him to vote in fear that he might vote against him out of spite, and so the club remains without a leader.

The club is put in the spotlight again during Real Stories of the K9PD in the summer of 2016 when Fox, under police duty, makes an appearance at the club house, possibly for the first time after not voting against Fido. Again it's shown that "club loyalty has been slipping", but this time it appears that Bino has taken the role of Chairdog. As it turns out, Fox has simply left the club for good sometime after joining the K9PD, and without Fox to stop him, Bino was able to win the vote and be elected Chairdog. Despite this, Bino hasn't been able to keep the club loyal to him, and the club members are seen cheering for Fox when he enters the club house, which is usually what happens to dogs who make it through the Police Dog Academy and into the K9PD. Without an inspiring and exciting Chairdog, it seems like the dogs aren't all that interested in hearing long rants about Bino's "greatness".

The club has not been mentioned since then, over five years ago.

Trivia[]

  • In the early days depicted in Housepets Babies!, the club's staging area was just a patio in someone's yard.
  • The club publishes its own four-page newsletter, as seen in Tea Party Politics.
  • While Grape is not an official member, she is shown to attend the club several times due to liking the taste of dog biscuits. The other dogs are too afraid of her to object her presence.
  • "Good ol' boys club" is a term used to refer to a guy-dominated group, and possibly the inspiration for the dogs' club name.
